The various types of detergents we have in the market are not separated by the brands that make them. Instead, I am going to focus on the components of those detergents. These are detergents that contain enzymes. These enzymes have the ability to breakdown stains such as blood and oil. So, they give the detergent the additional boost to get rid of these kinds of stains. The downside is that if you are using them on colored clothes, these enzymes would drain out the color. So, if you want to use a biological detergent, it is best to use to wash dress shirts that are white.

How to Wash Dress Shirts with Detergents

If we wanted to go into the full details of how to wash dress shirts, we would probably still be here until tomorrow. Because I am one of those OCD people who can be a little bit extra when it comes to their laundry. I mean, let us face it, every type of dress shirt has its washing needs.

Everything you learn on how to wash white dress shirts is different somewhat you will learn if those shirts are in different colors. You also need to understand the timing of your laundry because knowing how often to wash dress shirts could make a difference in how long those shirts last.

And then what happens when you have a stain in between the buttons? You need to learn how to wash button-up dress shirts for that. With all of this in mind, you would agree with me that there is so much that you need to learn and catch up on when it comes to laundry.

However, I am happy to spare you the drama and stick to the basics.

Step One: Sort your laundry pile

When you have plenty of clothes to wash, the very first step is to sort through the laundry pile. Separate the whites from the colored and then take a step further to separate the delicates. This is to ensure that you don’t have a situation where colors are bleeding into each other. Your white coat goes into the machine white and then comes out green or your blue comes out pink.

When you separate them, you have to wash them separately.

Step Two: Read the label

Every shirt comes with a label from the manufacturer giving you an instruction on how to wash it. These instructions also look at the temperature setting that is ideal for that fabric. If you want your shirts to last longer, it is important that you follow the instructions on those labels to the T.

Step Three: Use the appropriate stain remover

The best detergents for dress shirts are usually those that tackle stains alongside doing general cleaning of your shirt. However, when you have a stain situation, you would need to address the stain first before you toss your shirt into the machine for a general wash. For that, I have included a few stain remover tips for some of the more common stains that we come in contact with on a daily basis.

Washing your dress shirt is one thing, keeping them straight and ironed is another. Make your life easier by opting for dress shirts that do not require ironing.
